A Baptist Church

We are a Baptist Church.

Perhaps the most important thing Baptists believe is that the Bible is the inspired Word of God and through it Jesus Christ is revealed, who is our final authority for what we should believe and how we should live.

As a Baptist Church, we baptise adults and young people who have come to a personal faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour and wish to declare this publicly.  We immerse them in water as a sign of dying to their old life and beginning a new life with God.  (see FAQ for more details)

Baptists believe that the local church is a group of believers who gather together for worship, witness and service. The local church is governed by its members, who together seek the will of Christ for their work and worship

Although the local church is autonomous, it is not independent as we recognise that as churches we need each other, so we prefer to say that Baptist churches are ‘interdependent.’  We belong to the Baptist Union of Great Britain and the Eastern Baptist Association.  They support us with advice and training for ministers and members.

The vision of the Eastern Baptist Association is “Growing healthy churches in relationship for God's mission in the East of England”.

The Baptist Union of Great Britain is a member of the European Baptist Federation which comprises more than 800,000 Baptists and the Baptist World Alliance which comprises 45 million Baptists across the globe.  So we are part of a large family

We support BMS World Mission (Baptist Missionary Society) and our link missionaries are based in Chad.
